Number 1 on the Most Wanted List

Yes, this pretty kitty has been at the top of the wanted list for months. Meet MK Kitty, MK is short for Mama Kitty. Not a criminal in the usual sense, but still a wanted fugitive.

Following her natural instincts MK Kitty produced two litters of kittens in our back yard, one in June and the other in late September. The first litter was a group of three kittens, they are completely feral and stay out of reach in the trees near the fence line. The second group of six, pictured above, are fondly referred to as the Kitten Krew. They are still very wild except with me, they think I am their mom.

They are all adorable. The one pictured here is Fuzzi.

But wait, stop the presses! MK Kitty has finally been apprehended, her days of "littering" our neighborhood are over.

We have an organization here in town called the Cat Management Coalition. They have a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program that aims to stop the reproduction of our local cat population. There are monthly spay/neuter clinics for feral and free roaming cats. The cats are spayed/neutered, given vaccinations and micro chips. After an overnight stay in a warm safe room they are returned to the same place they were trapped. They will lead healthier lives and not reproduce.

The Kitten Krew went through the program in December. I trapped MK Kitty this afternoon, she will be going to the clinic first thing tomorrow. MK is feral, I used a live animal trap to capture her. She is spending the night in our heated shop and has food and water.
And the first litter of kittens, I will be working on trapping them for the next clinic.

Gotta Have Heart

For more hearts visit Clytie's Guest Heart Thursday. Look close and you will see hearts in the photo above. Don't look too close or you might spot a little visitor of the spidery kind.

Thursday also means it's time for Thursday Two-Questions.

1) Do you ever have lots and lots of ideas for blog posts and then sit down at the computer and your mind goes blank? Stare at the screen with fingers hovering above the keyboard and nothing comes out?

2) On the other hand how many "save as draft" posts do you have? The ones that aren't quite finished or you just changed your mind.

Simple Things

Be careful that you don't get so caught up in the splendor of the clouds that you forget the beauty near your feet.

Rural Route

We found these mailboxes way out in the country, we saw no houses anywhere nearby but knew they were hidden somewhere in the rolling hills of the farm land. Our guess is that the big box and steel drum are for large packages.

The United States Postal Service has no official creed or motto.
Often falsely cited as such, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" is an inscription on the James Farley Post Office in New York City,[1] derived from a quote from Herodotus' Histories (8.98), referring to the courier service of the ancient Persian Empire:

It is said that as many days as there are in the whole journey, so many are the men and horses that stand along the road, each horse and man at the interval of a day’s journey; and these are stayed neither by snow nor rain nor heat nor darkness from accomplishing their appointed course with all speed. (trans. A.D. Godley 1924)

It's also time for Thursday Two Questions.
While we are on the subject of mail.

1) When it comes to exchanging mail with family and friends which do you use most often, email or regular mail?

2) The postal service is feeling the crunch from online transactions. Do you receive/pay most of your bills online or do you use snail mail?

Links

Our local aviary is fill with birds and waterfowl from all over the world. It is divided into two very large areas with flowing water and vegetation. Viewing is through a chain link fence so you can imagine the problems with taking photos.

But sometimes it comes together and a photo captures one of the residents like this Common Goldeneye.

Valentine Rose

It's Thursday and time for Thursday Two-Questions. With Valentine's Day so close my questions relate to the holiday.
1) Do you have a favorite love song that holds special meaning for you?
2) Is Valentine's Day romantic or is it just another overly commercialized holiday?

My Review of 6-Quart Stock Pot in Cherry

Originally submitted at CSN Stores

The Le Creuset stockpot heats rapidly and uniformly for slow simmering and its lid seals the flavorful bouquet of your culinary creations. The stainless steel rim on the base and lid prevents chipping and cracking. The enameled interior won't absorb odors or flavors and...

I love this stock pot! It cooks uniformly and clean up is a breeze. Plus it is beautiful.

"When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"

"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"

"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said."

Impression

The artist gazes upon a reality and creates his own impression. The viewer gazes upon the impression and creates his own reality. ~Robert Brault

Thursday means it's time for Thursday Two-Questions. With all of the storms this week my questions relate to the weather and the effect on us personally.

1) Are you (or were you) directly affected by a storm this week?

2) What is the worst weather or natural disaster you have ever faced and how did you react?

My answers: Our area was storm free this week but I can't help but think of all of my friends facing monster winter storms and cyclones.

I have experienced many storms, with lots of lightning and wind and some flooding. The strongest were gale force winds of over 100 mph but fortunately I was safe inside a well built structure. I have also experienced my share of earthquakes with the biggest one being a 5.4 and we were less than ten miles from the epicenter. On three occasions when I lived in Anchorage volcanoes erupted and blanketed the city in ash. Not really scary but it was very, very messy.

We're Waiting!

Somehow I don't think we are the only ones looking forward to Spring. For all my blogging friends in the path of the Monster Snow storm, Mega Cyclone or just dark skies let's take a look at last spring.

Happy Groundhog Day!
Mister Groundhog, you had better have good news or you are in big trouble buddy!
