Squeaky s Farm is the story of Squeaky, our now fifteen-year-old cat, a dearly loved, highly respected family member. After her harrowing early years on city streets, Squeaky chose to spend the rest of her life with us.
She may have been re-thinking that commitment after we flew her to Spain's Extremadura region to live at Lagar La Senora, a dilapidated near-ruin of a stone house at the center of a rustic seventeen-acre farm.

Carolyn Parker
At age five, I was plopped down on a thirty-two acre farm when my family moved to Virginia. We had no indoor plumbing, minimal electricity, and a coal stove for heat. Almost fifty years later, when I saw Lagar La Senora for the first time, I was not concerned about its lack of amenities. I understood the concept of fixer-upper.
An inspirational academic year in Spain before graduating from Mary Baldwin College created the frame around a life devoted to travel, Spanish cuisine, and artisan products. My interests in cooking, wine, olive oil, country wisdom, and writing were inspired by that academic experience.
After college, my jobs were dreams-come-true for a liberal arts major bilingual secretary, manuscript typist, art gallery director, employment with an import company specializing in Spanish wines, and then sole owner of a small olive oil brokerage and distribution company.
Along the way, I learned to love cats and to recognize their importance in my life. All these elements entwined my love for Squeaky, Scott, and life lived simply, which led to the writing of Squeaky s Farm.

My Review
Squeaky's Farm is more than the story of a cat.
While the story centers around Squeaky it is also about the family's adaptation to life in rural Spain. I enjoyed both stories completely. There are happy times and a few sad moment but isn't that what life is about. I will admit there was one incident that had me in tears and angry at the same time.
I recommend this book to everyone. If you click on the link above you can read the introduction to Squeaky's Farm.
I found out about this book on our local humane society's Facebook page. I had to run down to the Humane Society immediately to pick up a copy of the book for myself. Not only did it sound like a great book but the proceeds from books purchased at our humane society will benefit Cat Management Coalition. This is the organization I volunteer with that works to control the feral cat population in our area through the trap/neuter/return program.
So anyhow, while I as there picking up a copy of Squeaky's Farm for myself I decided to pick up an extra copy to share with my blogging friends.

Good Morning Ms J,
Mom and I thoroughly enjoyed your review of Squeaky's book.
A few reasons why we would like to enter your giveaway:
1. We love the cover (yes we often judge books by their cover).
2. We enjoy books about adventure this definitely quilifies.
3. I, Madi, will never ever go on a plane ride so I'd like to read about how Squeaky perservered.
4. Last but not least, Mom read another book entitled Squeaky many years ago. It was about a hummingbird who mistakenly got trapped in a families' sun room for the winter. By the time they realized he was there it was too cold to release him...he survied...
Hugs Madi and Mom
I would love to read Squeaky's farm!
I too would love to read this book, Judy. If I don't win the contest (not likely), I'll get it anyway. I love cats and I also love travel. Your review made me want to read it AND contribute to cat management. :-)
I'm sure this is a great book. Cats are always good for entertainment.
I would love it to read that book
i sounds very interesting :)
Sounds like a lovely book. However, I'm not into cats that much. My neighbours cats (in my last house and new one as well) come over to poo in my garden and dig up my bedding plants to bury the mess. :-)
Sounds like a squeaky clean read. Count me in.
Sounds like a great book to read. I would love to read it for sure.
