Welcome to the first Thursday of Summer!
Please be sure to visit Clytie's Guest Heart Thursday. (Heart hints, there are several small heart but the main one is in the first photo.)
Thursday means it's time for Thursday Two Questions.
My questions for you today relate to the summer sun. It's nearly impossible to stay inside and hid from the sun, we have to go outside sometimes. Many of us spend a lot of time outside in the summer. We have all heard the warnings about the damage the sun can cause to our skin and we know too much heat is dangerous for our bodies.
1) How do you protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays?
2) Have you or anyone you know experienced a heat relate illness?
(Do you know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke? *
If not go HERE.)
Bonus question: Favorite way to quench your thirst when it's hot? Water or sports drink?
*I taught First Aid and CPR for over ten years and I know that most folks believe that this will never happen to them. It is important to be able to recognize the symptoms in yourself and others. Have fun but stay safe.

These are some good questions to get your followers to be very mindful this summer. ESPECIALLY with the new shocking news about sunblocks not really protecting! We just went out and bought one of the three that do protect, and then next year it will all be changed for the better. When I was a little girl, I used to get Prickly Heat all the time. I expect not many people nowadays have heard of it, I'm sure they are calling it by another name. I love the way you captured the sun and the deep green of the trees!! Hot, yet cooling!
yeah, as a kid i got 'heat rash'. as an adult, i've been overheated but try to stay safe from sunburn and stay hydrated. i love sugar-free koolaid, but i do G2 for times of exhaustion after strenuous chores, etc.
First, those shots are amazing!!!
1. To be honest I never really do anything to protect myself from the sun. I used to use sunblock but don't any longer. I know I should be protective but I never really even think about it.
2. I don't know anyone that has suffered from heat related problems other than some minor sunburns.
3. While I like sodas, they don't really quench my thirst. They actually make me more thirsty so the only thing I do drink when out in the sun and walking is water. It always does the trick.
When I was 15, my dad left me in charge of my brother (13) and my sister (9) on the beach at Anacortes, Washington, while he went fishing for flounders. He told us to be sure we didn't get sunburnt, because it could happen even on a cloudy day.
But we decided we'd be fine in the water. So we swam, and played, and played and swam, until Dad came back to find us all bright red.
He rushed us up to the border and across it to Grandma Davies's house, where she declared my brother (a redhead) had sunstroke, while my sister and I were "just" badly burned.
Most of our skin fell off where our bathing suits didn't cover us, and I was given a repeat lecture about being in charge, etc.
Mom wasn't with us because she had a summer job, and somehow, despite my enormous blunder, I always referred to it as "the year Dad and I took the kids to Seattle".
Before that, I used to tan every summer, but I never tanned again, even when I (foolishly) tried.

I stay in the forest as much as I can. My skin doesn't tan well so I stay out of the Sun as much as I can. It's hard. I've known a few people who've had heat exhaustion. I drink as much water as I can. I don't like sports drinks. Too much sugar.
I am lucky, I get tan pretty easily. Once in great while, I might get a little burn if I am not prepared. But when I am, I use 85 SPF by Neutrogena. They say you don't need anything more than 35 SPF, but I don't believe it. I believe the 85 SPF has improved so much, and the higher the protective chemicals(kind of ironic), the better. I can see the difference.
No one that I know of.
I only slap those sun block on my face daily but not on the whole body, and here it's like summer all year long. Kind of used to the heat and I don't get burned easily even after a whole day at the beach, of course I don't expose lots of skin to the sun.
I do try to cover up, and I always wear sunglasses. I'm so sensitive to the sunblocks that they don't really work for me. Water is the only way for me to go with a thirst quencher, some time a tea ( a real tea no milk.)
And yes, I have had heat exhaustion, working in the garden too long, felt like throwing up, and extreme headache.
Wonderful perspective, light and color.
Good morning....boy do I like that 2nd picture!!
1. Even though I'm an East Coast gal living on 150 miles from the beach I do not never sunbath. When I'm out walking for any length of time I wear at least 50 sunscreen.
2. My neighbor 3 doors down had a heat related event several years ago. EMS was called
3. After any outdoors activity in the summer I initally drink water to quench my thirst. Then follow that with a tall glass of sweet iced tea,
C
I use sunblock to prevent my skin from burning since I'm very easily tan.
Water for me since I don't like sport drink.
JoJo suffered a heat exhaustion two years ago, and I'm now forever worry, and I make him drink plenty of water even when he said he is not thirsty.
I saw the heart in the first photo, Judy!
water water and more water and AC is my protection from the sun. i stay in the house as much as possible during the summer months. i do not like summer and never have. i would skip the 3 months if i could, so i just pull into my turtle shell and stay there until Oct
I got heat exhaustion once last year on a hike. I wrote about it on my blog and now carry an energy drink with me to keep it from happening again.
And I got my face sunburned just this past Monday by snowshoeing in the cloudy weather. I had sunscreen with me, but I didn't realize how much sun came through the clouds!
I wear a light sleeve and a big floppy hat and use sunscreen.
Not me and I don't know any who has.
Ice cold water mixed with a few of those zero calorie ones.
Good question and to be quite honest, unless I am at the beach in the burning sun I do not use sunscreen. And even then, I don't use it on my arms or legs; just areas that may burn. I tan very easily and don't typically burn so I've gotten very complacent about it and the other part is I'm not a reactionary person and all the scare tactics don't phase me; is that the wrong attitude?
I use sunblock lotion, wearing hat, and staying in the shade whenever I can.
I preferred water over sports drink any time, and on occasion, a tall glass of ice with Coke.
I use sunscreen(honestly, not every day!). I probably should. For my face, I use coconut oil as a moisturizer, which is suppose to help with that. I do not know anyone who has had a heat related illness.
I love the shots of the sun through the trees!
I usually have sunscreen SPF 15 on my face every day. I don't usually put it anywhere else (except when I winter in AZ.) Then I have sunscreen all over when I am in the sun.
Whenever I'm outdoors, I wear a baseball cap to protect my face. I usually just keep indoors as much as possible because I don't like being exposed to the harmful UV. However, if I know I'm going to be outside for extended periods then I will wear sunscreen or long sleeve shirts.
Years ago, I was skiing on the lake. I was in the sun too long and felt horrible by the time evening rolled around.
Oh wow, Judy, the second photo is simply beautiful. i love the composition of the branches and the sun filtering through.
For protection, I apply a quick sun block before I work in the yard. Our friend had skin cancer - looks as if its from staying outdoor unprotected.
I think I see the heart on the first photo. Love it!
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
1. I usually use sunblock when I go out.
2. Thankfully none yet.
Bonus Q: I go for water first. Then I get a sports drink.
Reminds me of the sixties Judy! :)
Love that hint of pink.
Red hair, fair skin, sunblock and a hat.
Iced tea will quench my thirst or an occasional Pepsi. :)
I'm usually inside our home so I don't take any necessary precautions. However if the sun is up and we are going outside to play, then I'll put sun lotion on the kids.
I think other family members might have been sick, but not our family. Thank God for mercies.
ahhh...a beautiful, radiant heart...how perfect!
Some really nice heart finds :D ther are more than one heart in the tree top <3 Wishing you a great weekend
With age comes knowledge (of some things at least :-)) so now I am very careful of the sun. I do know the symptoms of both heat exhaustion and stroke and know they can be very serious. My eldest was working as a roofer and called me as he had had to pull over after working. He was vomiting and cramping. He was a town away and I called an ambulance. Medical staff told me it saved his life. His kidneys shut down and he was immediately placed on i.v. and hospitalized for 3 days. A word of advice do not drink Pepsi or caffeinated beverages when working in the heat.
Very beautiful heart find.
beautiful photo capturing the sun's rays! I do see hearts!
sun lotion.
I've not experienced a heat related illness. can't think of anyone who has.
important to drink lots of water and get electrolytes as well. I don't drink sports drinks.
