Tidying Up

Mrs. Darling first heard of Peter when she was tidying up her children's minds. It is the nightly custom of every good mother after her children are asleep to rummage in their minds and put things straight for next morning, repacking into their proper places the many articles that have wandered during the day.
If you could keep awake (but of course you can't) you would see your own mother doing this, and you would find it very interesting to watch her. It is quite like tidying up drawers. You would see her on her knees, I expect, lingering humorously over some of your contents, wondering where on earth you had picked this thing up, making discoveries sweet and not so sweet, pressing this to her cheek as if it were as nice as a kitten, and hurriedly stowing that out of sight. When you wake in the morning, the naughtiness and evil passions with which you went to bed have been folded up small and placed at the bottom of your mind and on the top, beautifully aired, are spread out your prettier thoughts, ready for you to put on.

James Barrie, from Peter Pan

Love the quote and I have fond memories of my mom tucking me in bed, too. Beautiful roses and I can almost smell their fragrance from here. Are they named Peace and Double Delight?

What a beautiful fragrant post!!
We're sorry we missed the Friday 56 sounds like fun....we'll check into it next week. Mom is reading Pawley's Island, by Dorothea Benton Frank, which takes place on in Charleston and Pawley's Island, SC. you know that is good for a few quotes.

You have made me think of my mother, long gone from this earth, and reminded me of the magic of Peter Pan. Happy Mother's Day to you, dear Judy. I know so little about your life, I don't actually know if you ARE a mother. I know you have one, though. :-)

Photos first: I absolutely love that second shot, beautiful.

Words second: what a wonderful quote. It is a very long time since I read Peter Pan but I might just have to do so again - would that we could all do that for our children forever more, What a beautiful thought.

I hope there's an age a child reaches when his or her mother stops rummaging around in there, for fear poor Mom would die of shock!

Oh Judy! You have outdone yourself again! Each picture is magnificent! And the second one, it glows through the screen!! Is this what Mrs. Darling put in the children's minds at night? I thought of you earlier this week when the sun was beaming rays through the clouds, I think of you every time I see that. You and those sunbeam pictures. I still don't know how you found or did those, you are becoming quite magical.
