My Bubble

Hi All, it's almost Thursday and that means it's time for Thursday Two Questions!

I just finished reading a book called The Filter Bubble which I will be reviewing tomorrow. This book has raised a lot of questions about the Internet for me. The questions I have for you today are related to what I have read.

1) What is the main role of the Internet in your life?

2) How would you feel if you knew that what you view on the Internet was being "selected" for you? In others words you would be seeing what someone else thinks you should see.

I hope you will all come back tomorrow and learn more about The Filter Bubble.

1. For me it's mainly about advertising and blogging. I advertise for my store and I blog to share my photos and writing with other bloggers. I love seeing what others create.

2. I don't like at all the fact that someone is selecting information for me. I want to choose my content for myself. BTW Gorgeous photo.

1) The main purpose for me is to blog, and make money for a cause.

2) Oh I wouldn't like that too much! I want to select the things I wish to see.

1) The main purpose for me is to blog and keep in touch with my friends.

2) It's sort of like going to a dress store and the seller picking an outfit for you that she think would look good on you but you don't really like. You look at it and say no thank you, and then move on. Maybe that's a bit too simplistic.

That's a great picture of Jack on your side bar. He's adorable!

Good questions:
1.) The internet is important to me because a lot of my family and friends live out of state so it's my connection to my world. Also, since I teach school, it's a communication tool for the families of my kids.

2.) I really don't worry/think about what is exposed to others...I don't write what I can't share so it's not a concern.

1) I use the internet as a research and communication tool. E-mails, and Facebook, then I started blogging as a way to try out my book idea, "An Unfittie's Guide to Adventurous Travel".
2) I don't think any"one" is determining what I see online. I feel I am free to roam around wherever I like. I certainly wouldn't like to think an individual or a government thought about me long enough to decide what I should or should not see.

1) the magic box (the internet) is a source of information and connection for me.

2) I don't think I would appreciate thinking someone was selecting my information for me. But I know I get an idea in my head, not planted there, and I search for information that I'm interested in.

Main purpose of the internet for me is two reasons. Information and outreach. And I would not like having my choices limited or edited!

The main role the internet had for me has always been various reading entertainment, and now my own creative exploration.

And I have always believed that everything I read and see, including the internet, has been selected for me by people with other ideas in mind. I'm a very suspicious person.

I was apalled to see four pairs of earrings that I had looked at the other day show up on my opening page through earthlink. Hmm, someone is watching what I view online...

1) The internet is my world.
2) I wouldn't like it at all, since I prefer to look what I need to look at.
I wouldn't mind suggestions, but it should be just that -suggestions.

Thanks for playing with us.

My main purpose in using the internet is to enrich my mind. I learn so much. And I have toured many museums and other places of interest that I don't have the means to visit otherwise.
Everyone puts out what they think I should see. It is my job to select from that and see what I think I should see.

Hmmm...I came by because I wanted to let you know that someone commented that your caption was the best! I must have arrived at the wrong place...or maybe someone has 'selected' that I come to this blog and not the other.

Interesting Thursday questions.

I started using Internet decades ago because of e-mails/communication. Over the years, the reasons of using the Internet has evolved. I cannot believe that today I'm using the Internet to raise popularity votes for a blogging contest I am participating in. Gosh!

To some extent what we view may be 'selected'. But we have the choice to 'believe' what we read.

the internet to me is my contact with the outside world on my blog and entertainment, also it is my dictionary and my place to find the answers i don't know. like how old is Steven Tyler? that i asked after seeing him on American Idol all year. and how old is Kirstie Alley and what year was the movie made i just watched. i am lost with out the WWW, bored to death.
it would depend on who does the filter. i don't view things other than blogs and what i said above, don't play games or watch videos and only go to youtube to hear a song i think about.

The internet is just the other part of my life that keeps me intouch with friends, people, knowledge and products.

2. I don't think what I view is selected for me to see, but I always know that with everything given, it's given from the giver's perspective of what they want shared and what response they are looking for. example the media and the kind of stories they choose to put forth

For me, there really isn't a 'main role' of the internet - it's multi-faceted thing for me. I interact with clients for my web design stuff, do a lot of research and reading online, connect with friends and family who are sadly 3000 miles away, and of course blog. :) I guess if you were to look at the actual 'main role', that would be connecting me to everywhere and anywhere, depending on what I needed to accomplish on any given day. :)

I don't think I'd like to have what I view on the internet 'chosen' for me...I like to pick and choose on my own! ;)
