This is not a fantastic photo but I like the way the sun brings out all the swirls and lines in the petals.
These photos were taken over a week ago, since then the wind and rain have taken their toll on my poor irises.
In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt. ~Margaret Atwood
Since Iris is the Greek goddess for the Messenger of Love, her sacred flower is considered the symbol of communication and messages. Greek men would often plant an iris on the graves of their beloved women as a tribute to the goddess Iris, whose duty it was to take the souls of women to the Elysian fields.

Oh, this last picture!!! And the first ones! And all of them!!!! My iris pictures were so dull and bad this year that I had to delete them! I think you need just the right light more than with most flowers. Loving this, it gives me something to aspire to!
A kaleidoscope of blooms. The colors so vivid and that iris is FANTASTIC!!! Love em all.
Amazing shots of flowers. Love their color.

Maybe that's why God started tornadoes.... too soon?

My garden was filled with iris of many colors and varieties. Most have finished their bloom now and the day lilies are waiting in the wings.
These are beautiful.
My entry.
Love your irises. Wind and rain is taking it's toll on our blossoms too, but we are fortunate not to have tornadoes so I will not complain but say a prayer for those who have not the thought or pleasure of flowers right now.
We are blessed, Judy! Thanks for sharing your blessings with us.
A truly wonderful show of irises and found quotes. I like the more abstract purple iris that is more about
swirls, light and colour. I did not know about the
Goddess Iris, so thank you for that anecdote!
