Feathers and Questions

The handsome peacock was strutting his stuff for all the girls to see.

The pretty peahen was either very shy or playing hard to get as she glanced at him over her shoulder. (All of the peafowl in this post and the one below reside at our local Pioneer Park aviary.)

It's time for Thursday Two Questions.

I have been trying to catch up on my reading as you can see from my sidebar so let's talk books today.

1) Do you have a favorite type of book (non fiction, historical, romance, etc) or do you read whatever catches your attention at the moment?

2) If you were stranded on a desert island (the hypothetical one that we all get stranded on in questions like this!) what three books would you want to have with you?

1. Well I love poetry so anything poetic in nature however I usually pick up whatever hits my eye.

2. I would take Wayne Dyer's Wisdom of the Ages, Longfellow's complete poetic works and something trashy :D

I'm not drawn to any particular type of book, although I am fond of the South American magical realism authors, and Alice Hoffman. My books would be the Bible, One Hundred Years Of Solitude and perhaps a book of poetry. Your photos are marvelous!! Something very lovely for me to go to bed and dream about now!

She is a pretty peahen:-)
I read whatever catches my fancy. On a desert island I'd want to have the collected works of Shakespeare, the collected works of Oscar Wilde and the Bible.

I read sci-fi and fantasy fiction.

I couldn't choose, because I'd go insane trying to pick my 3 favorites.

I'd definitely take Emily Dickinson's Complete Poems, the Bible, and the Koran.

1) I read almost any type of books: children, romance, nonfiction, fiction, and how to books.

2) I would love to have on hand how to survive the wild book, pride and prejudice to dream on, and the bible.

1) I have very eclectic tastes, though I tend to focus on one or two genres at a time. Right now it's mysteries and nonfiction (mostly of a spiritual nature).

2) Because of my current spiritual search, I'd take the Bible, the Qu'ran, and the teachings of Buddha.

1. I like upmarket women's fiction, such as books by Jodi Picoulti and Elizabeth Berg. And I like inspirational nonfiction as I list below.
2. "God's Breath" Sacred Scriptures of the World, "Complete Poetry and Selected Prose" by Walt Whitman, and an inspirational read by someone like Wayne Teasdall "The Mystic Heart") or Ken Wilber ("the Marriage of Sense and Soul").

I like real life inspiring stories, with happy endings of course.

If I'm stranded on an island, I would love to have the bible, the survival guide, and the hymn book!

1. Right now I am not drawn to any certain type of book, and that is driving me crazy. I have always liked to read, and usually have a certain type. I still like true, first person accounts of life in Alaska/Yukon....you know, that great big land way up yonder...but the library books that really hold my attention seems to be mysteries.

2. Not sure what three I would take...even though I don't read it enough...I would want my Bible...I would feel naked without one close at hand...and I would want the poem The Spell of The Yukon by Robert W. Service...I would have to have it in some form, and for my third I am not sure...probably some non-fiction journal or story of settling of the prairies....

1. I read whatever catches my attention at the moment.

2. "The Source" by James Michener, "Into Thin Air" by John Krakauer, and the "Dark Tower" series by Stephen King. (Sorry that I cheated by counting a whole series as a single book!)

I am a theme reader who goes back to her literary roots (I have a Master's degree in Eng Lit). When Bob Dylan came back to the public's eye with the documentary that was done a few years ago, I decided to read Kerouac's "On The Road". When I returned from Paris and stayed near where Hemmingway stayed, I read his memoir "A Moveable Feast" and revisted his short stories. Right now the theme is business improvement, so I just finished a business "success" related book. Not sure what is next. Depends on what is happening in my life.

I'd want the bible for its proverbs and/or a book of quotes for wisdom, plus a blank journal (and a pen or pencil) to have with me on a desert island.

1. I read anything except historical romances. I enjoy a good mystery any time.
2. If I were trapped on a deserted I'd like to have a
#1.Survival Book which includes recipes for when you are stranded on a deserted island.
#2. Bird book
#3. Alaska by Mitchner it would keep me entertained and make me think cool thoughts.

Great photos! Peacocks are so strange, but beautiful looking.

1. I like books that teach me things. They can be ficton or non-fiction.

2. None in particular, just as long as they were good.

Have a great week!

Ya, ya, I do as a matter of fact. Probably first one since college. Not sure if I will ever get done, but it is Michelle's book, Gone with a Handsomer Man. So far so good!
Gees, I would bring my erotic book, Stephen Covey Book, and my computer notebook. Maybe there is electricity on the island now? LOL.

The peacock and peahen are amazing. I love their feathers.

I would have such a difficult task in deciding. I have SO many books and hubby would like to toss most of them. I would have to my Bible, then maybe one on herbals and another on gardening. I would be wracking my brains on ways to get off that island and back to my books. lol
