Number 1 on the Most Wanted List

Yes, this pretty kitty has been at the top of the wanted list for months. Meet MK Kitty, MK is short for Mama Kitty. Not a criminal in the usual sense, but still a wanted fugitive.

Following her natural instincts MK Kitty produced two litters of kittens in our back yard, one in June and the other in late September. The first litter was a group of three kittens, they are completely feral and stay out of reach in the trees near the fence line. The second group of six, pictured above, are fondly referred to as the Kitten Krew. They are still very wild except with me, they think I am their mom.

They are all adorable. The one pictured here is Fuzzi.

But wait, stop the presses! MK Kitty has finally been apprehended, her days of "littering" our neighborhood are over.

We have an organization here in town called the Cat Management Coalition. They have a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program that aims to stop the reproduction of our local cat population. There are monthly spay/neuter clinics for feral and free roaming cats. The cats are spayed/neutered, given vaccinations and micro chips. After an overnight stay in a warm safe room they are returned to the same place they were trapped. They will lead healthier lives and not reproduce.

The Kitten Krew went through the program in December. I trapped MK Kitty this afternoon, she will be going to the clinic first thing tomorrow. MK is feral, I used a live animal trap to capture her. She is spending the night in our heated shop and has food and water.
And the first litter of kittens, I will be working on trapping them for the next clinic.

What an innocent look at this last picture of this over productive kitty.
That's a good thing with the vaccination, they would invade your whole yard otherwise.

Oh, good for you! I think it's wonderful to take them like this out of the breeding pool. And they are still alive and healthy and happy! Thanks for the wonderful things you do, Judy.

The program sounds very interesting, it will absolutely minimize the reproduction of unwanted litters, not because we don't want kitties anymore but for them to stay healthy. Thanks.

Well done! I applaud your efforts. Good luck with the First Ferals:-)

Good for you! I'm sure it took a great deal of perseverance to capture Mama but way to stick with it!
She is a beauty, isn't she?

Oh good for you!!! Those babies are adorable, but the old commercial "and they told 2 friends, and so on and so on" runs thru my mind whenever pets remain unaltered and multiply. God bless you!!!

I don't think I've heard of a trap-neuter-rlease clinic. It's worth every penny and time spent. The cats are really beautiful.

Amazing post, and great furry friends to accompany it.

Good for you! Mama cat must have been very hard for you to catch, but I'm sure you feel much better now that she's been "fixed". Good luck with the first litter.
(The baby in the last photo is SO adorable.)

What beautiful kittens! Also, what an amazing program. Wish Lubbock had such a good program. We have 2 cats and even though they are both female and indoor, we had them spayed!

Thanks for your lovely pictures.

This is such an uplifting story! THANK YOU for helping to keep the kitties healthy. I think it's great that your community has such a program. They will all be mighty confused for a little while but will lead healthier lives because of their trip to doctor-land.

The kittens are ADORABLE! I think I might have a hard time stopping the kitteh train! ;o)

J,
MK is a beauty....thank goodness you were finally able to capture her. Tell her Madi and I said littering was not a good habit to have. I guess by now she has been delivered to the vet to be fixed!!!

Well done and thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures.

Lovely photos, lovely cat/kittens. I had a similar problem with my Hello Kitty, but we were always able to find homes. Since HK, I have stuck with males, Meow Meow and da Meow. The solution in our area was someone anonymous dropped poison and it caught all the feral cats as well as my Meow Meow, before he got a chance to sow any wild oats.

That is a super programme and you are a good Samaritan for trapping MK and taking her to the clinic. We are very concerned about feral cats here because they prey on our small native mammals and koalas. If they are trapped I don't think they would be released again.

A good community project and you are great to be helping with it. I agree with the first commenter, kittens are cute but enough is enough. It's the humane thing to do anyway.

I'm glad to hear that you have an organization locally that will help with that -- good job on your part in catching her and the kittens!

Lovely photos -- the kitties are so pretty!

Fuzzi is adorable!!

Thanks for doing that! Being feral is a hard life for a kitty! It's best they don't reproduce! It also saves a lot of future offspring from being put down at the pound.

I do admire you for looking out for our feral cats. The kittens are certainly pretty but you are right to make sure that Mama cat has no more offspring. A x

You know, that is such a great thing to have in the neighborhood. I used to get the same cats in our apartment having litters after litters. I used to feel so sorry for the mama cats. It was sad to see her always carrying such heavy loads, and hungry.
