Impression

The artist gazes upon a reality and creates his own impression. The viewer gazes upon the impression and creates his own reality. ~Robert Brault

Thursday means it's time for Thursday Two-Questions. With all of the storms this week my questions relate to the weather and the effect on us personally.

1) Are you (or were you) directly affected by a storm this week?

2) What is the worst weather or natural disaster you have ever faced and how did you react?

My answers: Our area was storm free this week but I can't help but think of all of my friends facing monster winter storms and cyclones.

I have experienced many storms, with lots of lightning and wind and some flooding. The strongest were gale force winds of over 100 mph but fortunately I was safe inside a well built structure. I have also experienced my share of earthquakes with the biggest one being a 5.4 and we were less than ten miles from the epicenter. On three occasions when I lived in Anchorage volcanoes erupted and blanketed the city in ash. Not really scary but it was very, very messy.

we are having summer weather here, wake up to 62 high is 80, so no storms here, but i have friends and relatives in the path of those ice storms.
i have been through 2 hurricanes David and Elena and a tropical storm Gabriella and she did more damage than the two hurricanes. but nothing that destroyed my life like katrina and the cyclon down under.

I LOVE THAT picture!!! Well done...I bet Miss Cindi Lou did all the hard work!! LOL

1. No snow in Raleigh!!! That much snow here would have put us out of commission for a month.
2. When I was 6 Hurricane Hazel came right through Raleigh. I don't remember too much about it. But I do remember Hurricane Fran holy smoke we were w/o power for a week. We had so much debris in your yard it looked like a war zone. It took us nearly a week to get it all the the curb. It was stacked up nearly 5' high and stretched 1/2 a block. A month later it was finally gone.

Super picture.....We haven't faced floods or cyclone but we've been awfully close to the recent disasters in Queensland. My worst storm was in a tent in the mountains of Austria near Innsbruck. We had to hang onto the tent poles so it wouldn't blow away.

We had some snow dusting and ice here, but mostly just bitter, bitter cold for this region (NE Texas). We've not been this cold in a decade or so. And rarely for several days in a row so it is wreaking enough havoc.

Worst weather? Luckily never been in a tornado, although they've definitely been close and winds have done damage. Probably pouring rain and major flooding and hydroplaning while trying to drive on Dallas freeways.

No, thankfully I was not affected by that storm, although my family and friends in Ohio were.

The worst weather had to be Hurricane Hugo when I lived in Florida. Although it was the worst, it was my very first and I was intrigued more than scared because I'd never experienced one before; Ohio doesn't have very many oceans...
I didn't know to be scared or wary of the storm; I guess ignorance is bliss!

We've got rain starting here again today after a week of sunshine. But nothing unusual. I was in a hurricane in Puerto Rico when I was a teenager, the eye passed right over us, and our house had boarded up windows but still he had a foot of water on the floor at the worst. After it passed and we ventured outside, the devastation was astounding.

Your reflection picture is gorgeous!
1. No storms here just colder than normal.
2. Lived near epicenter of 1994 Northridge Ca. earthquake. Was awesome how communities helped each other.

What a great photo... a work of art!

Judy, we have been fortunate here in the PNW with our weather over the years. There is much concern for those around the world that are experiencing such terrible conditions; hopefully this will pass quickly.

1. Yes I can't get out of my apartment because I can't walk on ice.

2. No fortunely, I have not.

1.We have been iced in and while we have electricity many of my friends don't! Last night turned into a slumber party. Three friends and two extra dogs came for the night.

2. I can't think of a worst case scenerio because I like huge storms...not tragedy...but storms of any kind...

MS is under a severe winter storm warning. It's sleeting a little now.

Hurricane Katrina. We were without power for 13 1/2 days.

Although we've been dealing with morning and evening fog, otherwise, here in California, the weather has been cool and sunny. We experienced a few snowflakes when crossing the mountains on our way to Reno last Sunday, but have been blessed with near perfect days with only a light jacket required.

The worst weather we've experienced was flooding. The water ran over and through our property with such force that even the cows couldn't navigate through it. Part of my house had four inches of water rushing through it. We weren't able to milk our cows. What a mess! Hope and pray this never happens again.

Your picture is amazing, it looks like a Picaso or something!! It needs to be framed and hung. Giving me many ideas! Our weather is like summer this week! But I'm so sorry for the others. We had a large hail storm once that damaged so many cars and roofs that the city was full of insurance people for quite a while. All the cars on the car lots and everywere were covered with dents from the hail, so was ours. The hail also badly damaged the siding and shingles on houses.

Interesting picture. Our weather just now is really just dull, up and down around the freezing point, a bit of wind but not really stormy. The worst cold I've experienced was a New Year back in the late 70s. -40°C, I think that would be about the same on the F-scale. Remember it especially since we were away on a weekend trip with a youth choir I was in back then. The cars had to be pushed to start every time. We didn't actually learn HOW cold it had been until we got back home.

We had storms this week, but nothing too bad.
The worst I ever experienced was flooding in Louisiana where everyone was housebound for a week. It was so bad, some people used their row boats to get down the streets. The levies were all overflowed...etc. This was before 1989.

BTW- I had experience earthquakes in CA, and hurricanes in New Orleans and Texas. Snow blizzard in Michigan. Sounds like you had your share as well.

I love the picture, it's beautiful! I always look at pictures and ask myself "Could I live with that?" and in this case the answer is yes.
We have lots of snow but nothing like the midwest had. The sun is shining and it looks like a nice day, although I don't like to drive in snow.
Several years ago we had a flood. We stood and watched the rain come down and the flood come up, and it stopped right below the lip of our porch. The soil here contains a lot of clay and can't absorb water very quickly.
I've been in a couple of minor earthquakes, and I heard Mt. St. Helen's erupt in the 80s but the wind didn't blow the ash toward me. (I was still living in British Columbia, close to the US border.)

this is a beautiful image. i imagine this colors and reflections on blown glass.

1) i'm thankful there were no storms here this week.

2) i was caught in a rain storm and flood 2 years ago while driving from an out of town trip. i was scared but had the presence of mind to look for the higher ground, parked there and waited till the rain stopped and the flood water subsided. i waited for 6 hours.

What a gorgeous photo, with beautiful reflection and colors.

1. Yes. Today and tomorrow are ice days here, which means no school for the kids. icy roads, icy rain and snow.

2. When I was a child I went through a category 5 hurricane. I was so excited but after awhile i just went to sleep

Aloha!

Brault gives the best tip in appreciating an artwork! I think I will borrow it for my Sunday's photo challenge.

1. No, we did not have any storms lately although some parts of the country (Philippines) are having floods1 ;-(

2. My country is an island visited by typhoons all year round so we expect one and several in a year. For every storm and disasters, I pray for safety and guidance and that never fail. ;-)

Have a safe weekend!

I found you at Tara's blog hop! Great Blog!

1. I was effected by storms this week, we had a terrible ice storm!!

2. I was affected by many floods, we live along a large creek and had to evacuate a couple of times! We are lucky to have our home on higher ground but it was heartbreaking to watch our neighbors' homes being flooded!

The worst was in the early seventies when our house had flood waters up to the eaves of the house! I did not live here at the time, but heard stories. Plus I was just very little!!!

Yea I got buried. Still am buried under snow. My worst weather experience was probably driving across Missouri in freezing rain, that was awful.

We did get quite a few inches, but not as bad as expected.

I have survived three tornadoes. There was much property damage. In fact my father lost his shop. It was placed in the middle of the street by the storm. Thankfully there were no lives lost.

This is like a beautiful abstract painting full of vibrant color!
No storms this week in my world.
My worst weather was the year my son was born. On either side of his birth date we had a blizzard. During the second one my brother was visiting and couldn't leave. The interstates were closed. :)
