Observing the Letter O

Today we will be studying the letter "O".

O is for Orange, a bright and beautiful color. It can be found in many places such as flowers. In case you are wondering this photo is one of my Tiger Lilies from last year.

And Orange sometimes can be found in sunsets.

O is for Observation.

You can Observe a lot by watching.
Yogi Berra

O is for Opportunity.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell.

Too often the Opportunity knocks, but by the time you push back the chain, push back the bolt, unhook the locks and shut off the burglar alarm, it's too late.
Rita Coolidge

The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

If you remember last week I showed you photos of some baby Mallard ducklings.

There were three of them swimming around in a pond at one of our local parks. What I did not tell you was that I did not see Mama duck with the babies. It is highly unusual to see little ones like these with out Mama.

Over the weekend I got worried about the little ones and went back to the pond. I found some folks there who said Mama duck had disappeared and was no where to be found.
So, unfortunately, O is for Orphans.

The good news is that the folks I talked to were there to collect the ducklings and take them to the local aviary where they can be protected and cared for until they are big enough to be on their own.

And that concludes my report on the letter "O" for Mrs. Matlock's class. Please visit all the other students and Mrs. Matlock at Alphabe-Thursday.

Look! Up in the Sky!

Our skies have been busy this week. Clouds over the Blue Mountains brought us rain.

The honey bees were gathering pollen to take back to their hive high in this tree.

Inland gulls were flying in front of my camera lens.

And planes were flying directly over my head.

Fortunately there were a few quiet moments to relax and enjoy a peaceful sky.

Nature and New Life - An Earth Day Celebration

Today, April 22ND, is the 40TH Anniversary of Earth Day.

With that in mind N is for Nature!

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.

George Gordon, Lord Byron, Childe Harold's Pilgrimage

N is for New life.

You cannot imagine my surprise when I found these adorable little Mallard ducklings at a local pond.
They are the first little ones I have seen so far this spring. Click on any photo to enlarge.

I have more photos of the little ones at Through Squirrel Eyes.

Let's celebrate Earth Day by letting Mother Earth know how much we love her.
Happy Earth Day!

And that completes my report for this week's Alphabe-Thursday. Please visit Mrs. Matlock and all of the other students at Alphabe-Thursday.

Up, Up and Away

The first weekend in May is our annual Balloon Stampede. Each morning, weather permitting, hot air balloons fill the skies over our town. The flight path of the balloons comes directly over our house which is near the landing zone. Don't worry, no one fell out of the balloon, it's all in the camera angle.

Love taking photos? Visit Tara at Shutter Love Tuesdays and join the fun.

What The Robin Saw - SkyWatch Friday

Mr. Robin saw the new leaves showing their color to the sky.

He saw the blooms on the Lilac bushes. They are just starting to open and in another week the air will smell so sweet.

Mr. Robin also saw fluffy white clouds dancing across the blue sky. Do you think he looks to see what shapes he can find in those clouds?

What shapes do you see? Do you see a squirrel? What else?

The Letter M

This week's assignment is the letter M.

M is for Mother Earth.

My little Fox squirrel friend wants to remind you that the 22nd of this Month is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.

And just for fun.

M is for M&M's!

And this concludes my assignment for Mrs. Matlock's class. To visit Mrs. Matlock and her other students visit Alphabe-Thursday.
