Ever get the feeling of being watched?

Inland Octopus is a toy store located in our downtown area. This mural was recently added to the store facade. Now our city and downtown officials are questioning whether or not the mural fits in with the historic culture of downtown Walla Walla.
Since this is
Thursday Two-Questions #1 I will ask you. How do you like it? Should the mural stay or go, what do you think?
Thursday Two-Questions is a brand new meme, be sure to check it out.

The murray is so big. It goes with the store name, but doesn't look like it should with the neighborhood. Very nice find for photograph though. :-)
The officials need to lighten up!! This is a delightful bit of whimsy among some buildings that are probably very alike and stodgey. It is certainly better than an ugly neon sign! And after all, it IS a toy store!!
Beautiful art.. or graffiti...

Seems it's a little late for the officials to question it. Shouldn't that have been decided beforehand by an architectural committee? (Sorry, I've lived in an HOA too long!)
The mural is definitely a bright spot and I'll bet it becomes a landmark for directions to other businesses ("...three doors down from the octopus mural.")
Again, you've found another interesting meme! =)
The mural is beautiful Judy,But it does seem like modern artwork.
Have a great day.
If it's a toy store then it's no problem and later it would become a nice tourist spot in the future.
it took talent to do it and it is cute, but i don't like it between those gorgous old buildings. i do think they should have decided on the quesiton before they painted it not after.
I like it. It adds colors and stood out..I think it should stay!
Since someone must have approved it going up then it should stay. It's bright and cheery and will definitely be remembered.
I LOVE it, Judy, and think they should keep it.... It will add some 'life' to that area.....
Hugs,
Betsy
I think it's a fantastic mural! Very nice done!
I like it. It seems to be painted on something and not defacing the building.....
It's bright and cheerful and makes me smile...I love it! I'd vote to keep the whimsical fella!
God bless ya and enjoy this beautiful day!!!
Does a toy store fit in with the historic culture? It's bright and cheerful and anything that doesn't evolve becomes set in aspic.
I think it would look great in a children's park or children's museum, but for the historic district of a downtown, I am afraid my vote is for it not to stay there....
It serves as a great focal point for the town. It's kind of special landmark, and it should stay..
Judy, you discover the neatest things! This is awesome, and to answer the question, I believe it adds a childlike innocence and playfulness to the neighborhood. I vote it stays. :-) It would be like saying children cannot coexist with adults.
It is a fun mural and appropriate for a toy store but it certainly spoils the historic architecture of the neighbouring buildings.
Well I think it's fun! It's too late now to bring it down - should have been approved ahead of time.

I like the concept of an Octopus but I hope the artist made it look more like an inward 3D thing. And blue skies against the rainbow would make it look surreal. But that's just me.
Should it stay? Why not. Although I hope the original building (if ever there was one) was retained. Adaptive reuse means you can preserve the original and rework it a bit to adapt to contemporary times
