World Oceans Day

To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean,
to ride on the crest of a wild raging storm
To work in the service of life and living,
in search of the answers of questions unknown
To be part of the movement and part of the growing,
part of beginning to understand,

Like the dolphin who guides you, you bring us beside you
To light up the darkness and show us the way
For though we are strangers in your silent world
To live on the land we must learn from the sea
To be true as the tide and free as a wind swell
Joyful and loving in letting it be

John Denver, Calypso

Note: The photo is almost as old as the song. It was taken in the Gulf of Alaska before the days of digital cameras.

I love the poem and the picture. I'm convinced it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to take a bad picture in Alaska!!! Even in a picture that beautiful ocean gives me a peaceful feeling.

Alaska is somewhere we would like to go one day. Can't ever tell, we might actually end up there.

A dramatic ocean shot. We all need to take more care of our oceans.

World Oceans Day was named by the United Nations to remind us of our need to take care of this precious resource. Your picture reminds me how beautiful this pristine ocean can be.

A very dramatic oceanscape! Still looks good, even after all these years!

the photo looks like you were taking the wake of a boat, it is beautiful, the light, the reflections, the sky, I can see it moving and smell it.

I know that John Denver song, but didn't recognize the words at first. What an amazing picture. It does look rather foreboding, perhaps reminding me of the tragedy that has just happened.

Oh Judy, I love John Denver... Great words describing the ocean. All I can think about now is that horrible oil spill in the Gulf... How sad is that.

Great picture.
Hugs,
Betsy

Will our ocean ever recover from this spill?

Your photo is stunning. I love water shots.

The Alaskan Pacific is amazing in an elemental, homicidal, so dangerous you have to respect it kind of way. Much like many other things in Alaska. Beautiful photo!
