Today's assignment is the letter
S.
S is for
Squirrel! (What were you expecting? I am the
Squirrel Queen after all.)
The Fox
Squirrel (
Sciurus niger) is the largest species of tree
squirrel native to North America.
"Excuse me, but have we discussed a fee for all these photos? We squirrels have to make a living too you know."
Sorry about that interruption, now where were we?
Fox
Squirrels are very playful, often chasing each other up and down trees and across yards and clearings.
"Could we add lots of acorns to the contract? I really like acorns."
Squirrels have a large vocabulary of clucking and chucking sounds. They warn each other and everyone with in hearing range of approaching threats. In the spring and fall, groups of fox squirrels can be very noisy.
"Have you seen my peanut? I know I buried it here but I can't seem to find it. If you're not too busy maybe you could help me search."
Round and round the tree they go,
where they will stop we never know.
First to the left, then to the right,
watching squirrels is quite a sight.

They are impressive jumpers, easily spanning fifteen feet in horizontal leaps and free-falling twenty feet or more to a soft landing on a limb or trunk.
"Okay, that's it! No more work until we complete negotiations on this contract. Either we get all the nuts or you get no more interviews and photos. Is it a deal or not?"
Well it looks like my assignment for this week's class is concluded. Please visit our teacher Mrs. Matlock and all the other students at
Alphabe-Thursday.

Great photos Judy and a beautiful writeup, thanks for all the info and the humour.
I have to admit that I have a thing for squirrels! I love watching them play. WOnderful photos!
Beautiful photos of a very pretty squirrel - about twice the size of our (and your) grey squirrel. I bet you can hear them crashing around in the trees!
Oh Judy we should have seen this coming since last week was R...too funny. These are excellent pictures of Mr. Fox Squirrel...shhhh don't tell anyone I said this but he has pretty eyes; however, on a negative side...he needs a serious manicure those are some sharp weapons he has.Tell Mr. Fox Squirrel we know several puppies who would LOVE to help him find his acorns and peanuts. His contract should include a clause regarding his protection from predators. MOL

I read a blog earlier today that has an entirely different take on squirrels, I can tell you're a fan. You make them sound & look so cute.
~Maggie~
Really they chuckle and make weird sounds? I haven't seen a squirrel in real life, and if ever, I'd probably take photos of them too, IF they don't bite!
AL
You take the most amazing squirrel shots! Maybe it's the nickname, maybe it's the camera.... I like to think it's the photographer.
Well done!!!
Great pictures, luv them!
Hey Squirrel Queen---Why am I not surprised that YOU did an article on Squirrels on "S" Day????? ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi!
Beautiful shots of the squirrels. We have those here and they love to run up and down the trees. Have a great day!

LOVE dem squirrels!!!! Great pictures!
Great shots!!! Dory, Jacob, Bilbo and I were listening to one of those cuties making quite a racket in our backyard this morning!!
fantastic shots :D
OH, am I in love :) they are all so precious and the camera loves them. It's like I always say they are little divas. Your photos are awesome and capture their cute little personalities. Love the commentary as well. You've made my day with this post, thank you.
Wonderful shots, and your comments crack me up! My favorite is the third one with the close up of the squirrel's tail! Wow, it shows the black border around it, so pretty. Such an unusual picture, and great! Have you ever seen a squirrel dig up a nut that he's buried? I have not, I think they forget!
LOL! Give the squirrels all the acorns they want! I Love all the little squirrels in my yard.
I love squirrels! They are so acrobatic. I've done a couple of posts about the ones in my garden. If you want to take a look, follow the link (but my photos are not so good as yours).

Nice to see a red squirrel, instead of our usual grey ones.
Oh, I knew there was a squirrel lover on here. You probably better not go read my post. Squirrels and I have a stormy relationship LOL. Loved your perspective though on them ;-)
Wonderful Squirrel photos!
Wow..gorgeous photo of the squirrel. I couldn't manage even one decent shot.
Judy, you have done an excellent job with your interview. Love it!
Love our gray squirrels; they're the clowns in the yard.
Last year a fairy diddle showed up and that was one wild critter to watch.
Love this S post.
You NUT!
The "S" is obviously your forte! Great squirrel photos, and I wouldn't have expected less of you.
A wonderful post, and pictures that are every bit as wonderful. You captured what I see in squirrels perfectly. I recently found out that there is a different kind of fox squirrel in and near Florida. These Florida Fox Squirrels are supposedly bigger and with dark faces. Some call them monkey squirrels. The faces do really make them look monkeyish.
I love squirrels - these photos are so cute. We have both the fox and the gray squirrel here and they don't get along with each other!
What a sweetie.
We're happy to see the brown squirrels here this year - no grey squirrels yet, and that's a good thing.
yesterday hubby and i watched a LOVE fest in our tall pine tree. one of the cousins of your squirrel family. we shall soon have babies chasing around the trees. i let them keep their privacy or what they thought was privacy. maybe they don't care
Hmmm.... squirrels actually look a little bit scary close up!
But they are still cute!
Thanks for such a sweet and funny post on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's Letter "S"!
I really enjoyed my stop here today...although now I kinda/sorta feel like squirrels might be watching me!
ha!
A+
oh those squirrels, they do make the back yard interesting!
I just KNEW you'd have pictures of squirrels for the "S" photos! LOL! You really got some close ones! Cute!
These fox squirrels are beauts...great photos! I'll trade you some gray squirrels for some of your foxes...Peace and blessings
Excellent photos and commentary. I have always found squirrels to be kind of creepy but tonight I laughed a bit...
Blogging can be educational! LOL Who knew I would learn about a different type of squirrel. They ARE big but they are cute. Thanks for sharing.
Anne-Marie
Seriously, what could cuter than a squirrel romping around. Your pics reflect that and make me smile!
