Decorating Ideas

A friend of mine came over for lunch today. She was telling me that her daughter was thinking about redecoration her child's bedroom and she needed some ideas. My friend's granddaughter is six and likes all the usual stuff little girls of her age like but her favorite things right now are animals and princesses.

My friend and I went online to look for kids bedding at the CSN stores. We were amazed at all the different patterns available. The more we looked the more ideas we found. I couldn't believe some of the cute designs we saw.

I immediately thought of squirrels but we were trying think like a six year old girl. Which brings me to my question. Many of you have young daughters or granddaughters, what kinds of things do they like?

My daughter was into Hawaii theme, and she likes the color orange. So we decorated her room with grass skirts, and big floral stickers..

Check out HGTV decorating for little girls. Whenever I'm on a decorating kick, HGTV is where I go for ideas.
There is also section where people post their own before and after photos. That, too, is classified off in rooms, i.e., bedrooms, living rooms, baths, and very likely has a section for "girls" bedrooms. I spent hours and hours over months looking at small bathrooms before I started the redo on mine.

Best bet would be to ask the child for favorite colors, then go from there. HGTV is a great way to learn more ideas.

Can't help you with the children question. But I'm a big girl and I like horses!

My grands are teens now----so it's been too long for me to remember what themes they used. BUT---if it were me, I would choose 'Backyard Birds'....

My littlest grand daughter, who is 14 months, has a room decorated with zoo animals. My grand daughter who is going to be 7 likes princesses.

My daughter's room has been decorated in Early Hockey with an emphasis on Teemu Selanne and Joe Sakic since she was about 7 years old. She's now almost 15 and has no interest in redecorating. Not your typical girl's room.

Love the picture of the squirrel. Squirrels never fail to bring a smile to my face.

Princesses and anything to do with the being one.

The six year old should usually be able to give you clues by their interests and favorite colors. If she is into animals and princess themes, think Snow White and the animals of the forest around Snow White, or Bambi can be an inspiration.
I love the artwork of fantasy artist Josephine Wall for any kind of inspiration. What does the child want? When my girls were young they were into Rainbow Brite, I painted clouds and a rainbow on blue walls, sewed curtains and a bed spread out of starry and rainbow decorated material and decorated with commercial accessories.
Fun stuff!

Ask the girl! Luckily, my daughter liked the animal border wallpaper that was there since she was a baby. She did choose her own quilts(sometimes with pastel colors, other times butterflies, and later years a solid color) when we redecorated and opted to keep the wallpaper. She's always loved animals from dogs to horses, fish, and deer...but that wallpaper that is still there has none of those animals! Her beloved and prolific stuffed animal collection is quite another
story.

I think squirrels and other woodland animals would be really cute =)

Our 11-year-old goddaughter loves the color blue. Her room is decorated with Bobby Jack (monkey) "Going Dotty" accessories.
