The last leaf clinging to the branch, a reminder of days past. Soon it will be pushed aside by the buds of Spring to make way for new life.
Monochrome forces the eye to see beyond the mask of color, to see details otherwise overlooked. For more monochrome photos visit Aileni at Monochrome Weekend.
We have an oak tree that is clinging onto its old leaves... Don't know which oak it is--but there are many of them in Fairfield Glade. It may be a Pin Oak.
Well, it hung on almost all year, didn't it? I must admit that I probably would have missed that shot, your eye is really good! Kind of life and death all in one shot. Foreboding, as well. It's hanging on, but it's really already dead, so it's a done deal.
Judy....yet another BEAUTIFUL black and white from your creative eye. You know how to make a gloomy sky appealing.
Thanks for sharing your memories of Salem and Tasha....it is so hard to lose a pet but oh my word the memories they leave us with are priceless. Madi and Mom
Excellent shot - taken while pottering around in the yard this weekend i presume? The Cottonwoods tend to hold their leaves also, although our terrific spring winds started this weekend (so no playing outdoors) and began to remove any leftovers. whooooosh!

Grew up in a small Georgia town with a desire to see some of the places I had read about and many I had not. I moved to Alaska and lived there for about ten years. My jobs took me to many parts of the state including Barrow, Nome, Kodiak Island and many more. I have also lived in California, Oregon and now Washington state.
Let this be the story of the journey so far.

I like the dark threatening sky in the background, looking like it's getting ready to pour!
Judy, this is a very clever shot. I can see the promise of buds on the twigs just waiting for warmer weather to draw them into life.
So simple and beautiful!
So sad, the last one... But a beautiful photo!

Great picture of your 'leaf'--Judy.
Hugs,

Loved the mood in this shot..so forlorn!!
Your clouds look so fluffy. Your picture reminds me of how they looked when I looked out the window of a plane. Great capture!

such a mood to this photo - good stuff! looks great in black and white too- very fitting!
Great shot. I love the last leaf hanging on for dear life.
Amazing highlights. Love the way you have framed the shot. The last leaf hanging for dear life. I hope the summer comes by soon :|
Great shot, it looks a lonely leaf.
looks like it is going to rain
Nice picture of the last leaf - trying to hold on! :)
It must be lonely up there - you have caught the feeling just right.
Beautiful B/W and nice thoughts about the cycle of life. I hope, that bud of spring comes soon.
Simple and beautiful!
Good one Judy! Reminds me of the song The Last Leaf, clings to the vine...lalala.

Wow..beautiful photo in monochrome!
Kinda sad - that poor little leaf left all alone.
Great shot! It reminds me of me, hanging on until winter is done :)
It makes you wonder why there is always that odd leaf here and there who won't give up and hangs on...? Lovely photo!
Interesting composition, Judy! Macro really adds drama to a scene. This is lovely, Judz! :)
Beyond the mask of color, your photo seems to look forward to spring. It strikes me as very cheerful!

The last leaf, clinging through the winter. Very nice pic!
Lovely photo Judy and with lots of lingering drama.
Fine shot. I love the way you have so much detail in the sky, and the way the twigs and leaf stand out.
last leaf - a simple subject yet captured beautifully...
mine's here
That's so cool! The monochrome is perfect..
This is a fantastic shilhouette in mono which expresses well the last leaf!
perfect subject for monochrome...lovely shot Judy, as always. A promise of rain?
I like it. Our oak always keeps some leaves through even the harshest winters. Can't wait to see the tender green buds again.
neat looking. I want the spring buds. I love the monochromatic, but boy am I looking forward to some color and summer stuff.
I did a post once, from when I was sitting by my pond in November and wrote about a "singular leaf on a frozen pond"
That is about as poetic as I get (tee, hee)
I can just imagine the new green buds ready to burst forth to replace the old life with the new.
Love the image of the last leaf. And a really great grey sky.
Much in little - an inspired shot!
Ready for them too! Can't wait for the new leaves....
Excellent shot - taken while pottering around in the yard this weekend i presume?
The Cottonwoods tend to hold their leaves also, although our terrific spring winds started this weekend (so no playing outdoors) and began to remove any leftovers. whooooosh!
Have a GREAT week!
