Wings of Summer - Camera Critters

A little side trip back in time to this past summer. I photographed a lot of small creatures including honey bees, butterflies and skippers, and dragonflies. Of all the dragonflies I saw this little fellow was my favorite. He posed for me for quite a while as I moved the camera lens closer and closer.

When he finally grew tired of posing he raised one leg as if to wave goodbye and flew away.

Do you like to see critters? Can't get enough of them? Visit Camera Critters.

we have many dragonflies here, but none with the beautiful colors of this one. great shot. they are hard o photograph because they are so active. I have a few but none as clear as this one. The nut Baby chews on is like chewing on a bone, it is the chewing action and when she tires she spits it out.

Hi Judy and Miss Cindi Lou,
What a wonderful picture. Looks like he could fly off the screen right into my house. Beautiful color too. You must have some zooooom on your camera. Hubby and I are about to start our after Christmas search for a new camera for me. I feel rather guilty spending the money since there is nothing wrong with my Nikon 3200 coolpix...I just want more zoom and ability to get birds from inside. Unless I sit on the porch for hours I cannot get them outside. Sneaky little things. Oh while eating breakfast yesterday I saw what looked like a small plane pass by lo and behold I look up to see a hawk on our fence. No doubt he flew in for breakfast and of course my camera was no where nearby. All my feeders have domes on them so he can't get my birds while they are eating.
We're hearing rumors of a warmer week next week.
Regards to you both. Hope Miss Cindi Lou likes her kleenx box.

Wow, what amazing macro shots. My husband is fairly good at these. What lense are you using for this. I want to show these photos to him. I'll show my little granddaughter on Monday when I have her, too. She likes "flying dwagons!"

Pretty little guy, Judy... Wonder where all of these tiny ones go during winter???? Guess they build some nests underground or somewhere --and just wait 'til Spring..... (I don't know. Do you?)

Hugs,
Betsy

I'm totally stunned!! This could easily be on the cover of National Geographic! How beautiful, and what an unusual color for a dragonfly. Just when I think I have a decent picture, you take some sooo much better!! Funny, because I've been working on a dragonfly post for quite awhile! But I never even entertained the idea that I could get a shot of one. They are never still!!! They spend most of their lives as an ugly little grub. Your shots have made my day, in the middle of this frigid weather.

I am impressed with the body construction of these beautiful creatures! It is not easy at all to take its photo. I’ve never managed to take any photo of dragonfly. Your photos are excellent, indeed!

Handsome dragonfly! I haven't seen any with quite that colouring here in Ontario. Isn't it amazing how many different kinds there are?

I love dragonflies. I'm glad you got such a good shot of its face. I think that might be the most interesting feature of this little critter.

Lovely critter...I like the color of the dragonfly. Blue is simply cool.

That is what I love with photography, we always see the tiny things around us and even the slight movement could mean so much to a photographer.

Great captures Judy, as always.

I am so slow with commenting these past few days. The speed of our internet is so disgusting, uploading photos can take forever, same with posting comments. I think I need to call the customer service of out telecom provider. Whew!

I always say "Great photo" but...they always are! I had one like this, this past summer-love the turquoise head and the other shade of blue (what descriptive word hmmm) of the body. I could never get a shot of it, so am glad to have time to just sit here and take it in at my leisure.
Like i said, i always say it, but it really is a great shot.
Hope you had a great weekend-i see you have a deluge of rain headed your way.
