Water for the Land - Monochrome Weekly

A large part of our valley is devoted to agriculture with the primary crop being wheat. This is part of an irrigation system which supplies water to the crops. If you look very carefully along the horizon on the left hand side you will see more of this system. If you look even closer along the horizon on the right hand side are windmills which generate electricity. Our valley is also home to several Wind Farms, there are hundreds of windmills all along the ridges of the mountains here.

A fascinating subject. I hear the windmills are very noisy, elegant as they look from a distance. Your take on the irrigation system is dramatic in size 'til one realizes the scale of the area that has to be sprinkled.

This angle lends itself well to monochrome photography. great patterns in the sky.

Judy thanks for sharing it, I think we should have an irrigation like that here, being an agricultural country like ours, I think it's time for us now to invest in more bigger structures like that. As of now, some farmers are still using the old fashioned irrigation systems which sometimes makes the production slow, thus causing shortage in some of our staple food like rice.

At first I thought I was looking at a giant modern outdoor sculpture. In a way, I guess it is.

Super interesting. Is the irrigation system for the area or is it privately owned?

I investigated doing a windmill to generate electricity here as an alternative. We did not have a high enough average wind. West Texas, and probably the Panhandle, is suitable for wind farms.

Great monochrome! I see a lot of those in the Central Valley of California among other places, of course.

In Colorado near my old home we had a huge wind farm, and I've seen them in China's western provinces. But around here in the Pacific Northwest I haven't yet seen any. Great shot.

Judy, I've discovered a site that awards a camera monthly to winners of a photo contest. Yours are really good, you may want to think of entering. I've only just joined and am trying my hand. You can enter a photo daily.
