Camera Critters - Art in the Park?

I visit our largest city park at least once a week. Because of it's size a walk around the entire area is good exercise and more entertaining than the walking trails. As usual the Fox squirrels are everywhere and come over to say hi and find out what I am doing.

With his curiosity satisfied he's off to see what else is going on or perhaps to annoy the geese. I continue my walk and all is quiet and normal. Normal, that is, until I see this next little fellow.

I saw this squirrel sitting on the side of the tree, he wasn't moving a muscle. It was almost as if he was a piece of sculpture, a woodsy little work of art.

I moved a little closer and still he didn't move so I waited.

Finally he couldn't stand it any more, he had to look and see what I was doing.

Then something else caught his attention. He turned, and at the speed of light, ran straight up the tree before I could trigger the shutter one last time.

We have some very ineresting, and interested!, black squirrels in our neighborhood.

Even with our the rest of our domestic family brood(2 cats an 2 big dogs) they come and practically line up when I go to the front porch to retrieve the paper in the morning.

I suppose my giving them ears of field corn doesn't hurt!

Great photos!

I miss the more civilized squirrels like this. My forest squirrels are all antisocial. I haven't seen the more friendly kind in a long time.

Love your squirrel story and photos. I didn't know that they are really called Fox squirrels. Rarely are they still long enough to catch like that!

We have a bunch of frisky squirrels around here, too. I saw one "hiding" by holding perfectly still while another did the same thing on the other side of the tree. I think it was a squirrel's game of "chicken."

They are adorable. I can see his little nose wiggling as he sits on the stumpy branch on the tree! What a little cutie!

Hahaha Judy that was very timely! You hit the shutter before it gets away! The fox squirrel is cuter I think I will like them more.

Do they belong to the marsupials?

Your photo sequence is gorgeous. Very good close-ups of that inquisitive twitchy nose. I love watching squirrels too.

Very cute! We have a backyard full of squirrels; but they are too afraid of the dog to stick around when I open the back door. Too bad they don't realize he's harmless.

Yey Squirrel Queen! Great shots. There is a little gray one that lives around the bend in our road. He has managed to avoid traffic so far but he's a little foolhardy.

He was posing for the Squirrel Queen. I am sure you are legendary to him and his pals and he probably went off to brag. "I saw Squirrel Queen and she took pictures, now I will be on her blog"

I like this squirrel photos very much. This little animals are so cute and I do not have much of a chance to see them in private; let alone to take any photo of them. Squirrel Queen, well done job, indeed! :-)

I envy you being able to get that close. I saw a blond squirrel the other day but he was gone before I could dig the camera out of my purse. lol
