The Farmers' Market Challenge is Back

By popular demand the Farmers' Market Challenge is back! Also I have a little something extra for this month.

Last month's challenge was such a success and many of you requested that I continue this photo challenge, so let's have an August Challenge.

The date for this month's challenge will be Saturday, August 29TH.

This is for everyone. If you have a Farmers' Market in your area we would like to see your photos. If you don't have a farmers' market how about a roadside produce stand? Maybe you operate your own roadside produce stand. Or maybe you grow your own vegetables? Do you raise chickens or geese, do you use the eggs? No matter how big, no matter how small we want to see your photos.

The purpose of this challenge is to raise awareness for purchasing locally produced foods. Be it fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, or any related items we want to know what's available where you live.

How will this work? All you have to do is post photos and/or a story on your blog on or before Saturday, August 29TH. When you have it posted to your blog you will come back to my blog and add your link. I will give you more details when we get closer to challenge time.

Also I would like to take a moment and say thank you to the blogger who actually got the ball rolling on this challenge. I did a post showing our local Farmers' Market a few months ago. Rae at Weather Vane left a comment saying
"I think we should all post pictures from our markets for comparison. I can show you corn, corn, and more corn. Yellow corn, blue corn, green corn, and red corn. Lots of corn."
And as the saying goes, so now you have the rest of the story. Thanks Rae, and we are waiting to see all that corn.

Walla Walla, WA is home to the Walla Walla Sweet Onion.

And if you noticed above I said I have a little something extra to celebrate this month's challenge. I am going to do my first give away. I will be holding a drawing, nothing big but very cute.

I will post the details tomorrow! Yep, gonna make you wait!

Hey Judy, I thought it wouldn't be done this month, and I am eager to show you some photos of eggs, but since you announced about it...I'm gonna go and hunt eggs!

Judy,
Thanks. And yes I am waiting on that corn too. The fields are full and I can't wait to take pictures. As soon as those farmers bring those crops in I will post pictures of some awesome corn. I sure wish our summer markets had turned out. For some reason they just fizzled this year. Our fall markets are great. I can also show you pumpkins galore. Illinois is the number one grower of pumpkins. This will be fun.

I'll play, too. Need a good reason to go out and get sweaty in downtown Dallas!

YAY! perhaps I will post recipes of all the yummy things you can do with local honey. My local honey producer is the one sure thing at our farmers market. And it's nice to know his honey bees are doing fine and don't seem to be suffering from colony collapse disorder.

I'll put this on my calendar! -kate

Kate, we only buy local honey. Hubby has allergies but keeps them under control and minimized by eating a teaspoon or two of local honey a day.

Judy, I'm in.

I've BEEN to the farmers market like twice lately, it's not real picturesque (pickups in the middle of an asphalt parking lot) but I forget to take pictures.
How about a picture of my apple tree, that's about the only thing I'm growing to eat this year. :-)

I've already decided on my post... Yep, I'm going to post pics of our shameful farmer's market for all the world to see! ...or just us folks here in BLogville. Maybe I'll get pics of the one in Yellow Springs, too. I'll mark my calendar. I'll also be sure to pop over and thank Rae!
