It took a little time and patience but all is well. What we had was a failure to boot, the computer refused to open Windows.
When my sweet hubby came home for lunch I tried talking him into tackling the project of getting it going after he got home from work. I mean if this thing was going to get toasted and he worked on it I could then say it was something he did to cause the mess. Isn't that what husbands are for? He then pointed out that I know as much about computers as he does and offered a suggestion or two. OK, I'm going in and if it explodes it's all my fault, sigh!
To make a long story short I went into the System Restore Console, poked around in DOS (I don't suggest trying this at home), and repaired the boot record. Put in the XP disc, started up the computer and so far, so good. Started a reload of Windows, it ask for a full load or a repair. Repair please. Thirty minutes and several prompts later it says to restart the computer. Restart, wait for it .......here it comes.......Houston, we have lift off!
The computer boots and life is good. A few minor tweeks and reload some drivers and we are good to go, YES!
I probably should mention at this point that we build our own computers and this is not the first incident in our many years of doing this!
Anyhow, I'm back, the computer is purring (or maybe that's Cindi Lou), and now I just need to get caught up on everything.
I want to thank everyone for the encouraging comments, you are the greatest. I will be catching up on all of your posts soon.

Wow. I have no idea when it comes to computers. I just want the magic to happen when I hit the keyboard.
Because of my past experience with fixing computers I can tell you that looking at it does not fix it
yay! I am so computer illiterate...fortunately I have my own live-in IT support nerd: my husband! kudos to you guys for building your own computers, wow. I leave that to my hubby the Linux nerd. welcome back! -kate
If it is not the computer it is the blogging system! Today, google blog wants to update the account and, of course, all the ID's and passwords have to match. Turns out they don't!! Grrrrrrrr time passes trying to figure out why not. Anyway, glad you're back. Love the balloon!
Happy Bastille Day! I guess you stormed the ramparts and won the day! Congratulations, and welcome home! I truly appreciate all your wonderful comments on my blog, and now that I know you are a true geek, I am impressed! Have a great day, and I look forward to your next exploits.
Glad I married a geek to take care of my computer problems! LOL!
Now I know who to ask...

OMG! You built your own computers? You must be a genius. I have trouble just turning mine on. :)))
