Color contributes to beauty, but it is not beauty. Color should have a minor part in the consideration of beauty, because it is not [color] but the structure that constitutes its essence.
Hey! That's kinda what I said on the other blog. I have a foyer filled with B&Ws. My favorites are the old photos my dad took of railroad tressels and bridges.
it depends.... Sometimes, it is the form that is beautiful and therefore, in art, is emphasized. Sometimes, it is the color. And sometimes, it is both. Your black and white is quite lovely. It is a strong structure statement. But there is also a quality of light that contributes emphasis. This is an excellent quote, one I don't entirely agree with, but it makes one consider what is beautiful.
I see things in color, even music! And I can't help thinking of those paintings of just two bold blocks of color (can't think of the artist's name - starts with a K?), where structure and form are secondary to color. Yet, there's something so moving about a black and white, stripped to the bareness of its emotional content.
Come to think of it some of my favorite artwork I have done has been in black and white, a graphite drawing of my daughter and children going to Ship Island on a boat is one. Form and structure first, wonderful quote! AND wonderful photo as always.
Hi All, I thought it was an interesting quote and was curious what everyone else would think. I love color and see it in all things but there are times I want pure form. Thanks for the comments, SQ

Grew up in a small Georgia town with a desire to see some of the places I had read about and many I had not. I moved to Alaska and lived there for about ten years. My jobs took me to many parts of the state including Barrow, Nome, Kodiak Island and many more. I have also lived in California, Oregon and now Washington state.
Let this be the story of the journey so far.

Hi judy ,there is truth in that quote but often it's colour that attracts us.
