Honey Bee Photos an Update

For those who have been following my blog for awhile you may recall I am on a quest to get a perfect photo of a honey bee. I am still working on this and even though I am getting some interesting photos I may never get one I consider "perfect", but I will not give up. I just thought I would show you some photos I took yesterday.

Most of the bees I am taking photos of are honey bees, for anyone who did not see my post entitled So Much More Than Honey I encourage you to take a look and see just how important the honey bee is to our existence.

Honey bees can sting but they have to be provoked. I have been taking these photos for over a month, pretty much sticking a camera in their "faces" and I have not been stung. Honey bees are the good guys.

You can click on the photos to see a bigger image. Look for the pollen on the first and third bee.

Good Lord, those are incredible! I don't know how much better they could get, I can see the fur and antlers and all that stuff. Look at the way, the wings are translucent. You are too hard on yourself, you have done it!

You are going to have to change your name to Honeybee Queen pretty soon.

Now I am reminded of my disappointment yesterday. In one of the wheel barrow trips, as we passed through a huge patch of clover, I noticed several bees! I got excited! Upon closer examination I discovered they were only those yellow jackets.

I'm into the clover a lot since I like to pluck handfuls as treats for my horses. I have yet to see any honey bees on the clover this year.

I am with Chica in that I can't imagine better photos. They are amazing.

When I first started working in my flower garden some years ago, I was totally surprised that the bees were all around me but I never got stung. Every since that realization, I've don't concern myself with getting stung. When they are buzzing around me, though, I do not make quick movements, not particularly slow more of a natural movement.

I saw quite a few bees in the spring but not very many the past month or so.

Great pictures. I really like closeups of bugs, especially bees. It gives them a whole new dimension.

I am proud of your dedication to snapping the precious honey bees. The shots are so brilliant and vivid. Great job, Judy! I'm looking forward to more. I know they will find you.

I just saw the first fire flies of the season out last night. OH I love them!!! Turns me into a kid in a heartbeat. Yes, I still get my jar out to catch a few. Let em' go after a little glow watching. sigh....

Thanks for your visit to my skywatch post from my temporary home in NYC with my little family there. Now I am back in Australia. And suffering from jet lag already, awake in the night!

Looks like an interesting blog you have here!

I loved the second photo - the bee seems to be looking straight at the camera. Fascinating creatures and quite beautiful if you take the time and trouble to get up close.
