Farmers' Market

Welcome to the June Farmers' Market Challenge. I and some other blogs have posted photos of our local farmers market, produce stand, or a similar venue. The point is these are places to find fresh produce as well as other local products. Why buy something grown across the country or the world when you can support your local farmers?

More photos:

And we have one more great Farmers' Market, this one is from Bellingham, WA. You simply must take a look as the Bellingham Mayor throws out the first cabage of the season. Visit DJan at D-Jan-ity for some great photos and story.

Hi everyone, we have a new market from the Philippines. Al at Caramel Macchiato has posted photos for the challenge. This is a great market, be sure to take a look at her great photos.

Lynn at Musings from the Texas Hill Country also has photos of her local produce and other good stuff, great photos. Be sure to go over and take a look.

Kate at The Holdfast Seeker has a post called "Eating locally: the CSA farm share" Be sure to check it out.

We have new addition, visit Honeygo Beasley and see lots of fresh from the farm goodies.

If you want to show us your local produce leave me a comment and I will add your blog to the list. I will be doing this challenge again on July 25th so mark your calendar and get ready.

Walla Walla, WA Farmers' Market

While our Walla Walla Farmers' Market is just getting started there are still lots of goodies for everyone.

Lots of flowers everywhere either ready to hang or you can buy individual plants.

Cherries of course, fresh picked and sweet.

Strawberries, yummy!

Greens of all varieties, very fresh.

And do not forget to pick up some garlic whistles. It's the top part of the garlic plant.

Maybe get a plant to grow at home.

If you do not want to make your own preserves just pick up a jar or two in your favorite flavor.

This artist painted in oils on feathers.

After a hot day of shopping about a cold lemonade?

Before you leave remember to pick up a basket of flowers.

As I said earlier, why buy your food from some other place when you can support your local farmers. This practice is also good for our environment. For more information go to Reduce Footprints and see how you can participate in the Change The World Wednesday's Challenge.

Sorry, but in my haste to get my photos up I forgot to link back to you. I've remedied that.

I really like farmer's markets. My parents both came from farming families, so we would always go to places like this.

Terrific subject! Eating locally is one of the very best things we can do and this applies to all and everywhere it's possible. A movement regarding this started some years ago and we can be refered to as "locavores". Very lovely photos... always a pleasure to drop by!

Looks wonderful - I can taste those cherries!
There's a farmer's market in our nearest town but it's only held once a month.

I love farm grown fruits and vegetables; this is the last weekend of our cherries in Leona Valley. The flowers looked so fresh and beautiful!

These look gorgeous. Reminds me of the Farmers' markets in Portland, Oregon that we used to go to when my parents lived there. Everything looked and tasted so good.

They all looked so wonderful. Thanks for hosting.

I think I've told you we grow our own cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, melons, corn, green beans, and chives. We also have hens for fresh eggs. We sell the extras on a table by the barn.

I saw some beets and now I want to grow them too! Yum. Bunny's ate my rhubard! Every year we add a little more to the mix.

Nothing like really fresh vegetables. Oh, I almost forgot... Last year Hubby sold some of our beans to the local Fulmer's grocery store.

I'm getting inspired - will have to get up early some Saturday morning to take a run into Austin for one of its farmer's market.

This such a great idea for a challenge -- see other parts of the country...and world!

Great idea to share these photos about products from local farmers. The problem is the farmers in my part of the country are cattle farmers. So there is cheese and other dairy products. They deliver milk directly to the milk factory. The reason that we have only cattle farmers is that the west of the Netherlands is too wet to grow vegetables or grain.

What a fun idea. Okay ... I'm going to bring my camera with me, the next time I shop at the market, and then, I'll post about it. That will tie in nicely with an Eco-friendly reminder to eat local!

Thanks, SQ!

Hi (again) SQ,

Did you know that there is a contest for the best farmer's market in the country? Yep, the winning market will receive $5,000. The winner is determined by the number of votes received by those of us who love farmer's markets. So, if you really like your market and want to do something special for them, click here and vote:

http://www.care2.com/farmersmarket?cid=sa1

I've also put a badge at the top of my blog to make it easy to vote. I thought it tied in nicely with your monthly series.

Take Care!

We don't have a Farmer's Market where I live. Just small vegetable stands on the corners near people's homes. Wish I had one, though. They look like a cool place to visit.

Grampy said...

Yes our farmers market is very small. You have a fantastic one.
